  • Why August is the Best Month to Upgrade Your Lawn Mower

Why August is the Best Month to Upgrade Your Lawn Mower

August is known as the best month to upgrade your lawn mower because it’s when stores sell their old stocks to put new models. As the mowing season goes down and mower demand decreases, you will find great discounts. This off season time is perfect for getting great deals on high quality mowers. So that you can save money while getting an efficient mower.

Two Reasons Why August Is The Best Month To Upgrade Your Lawn Mower

    Stores Provide Massive Clearance Sales

After summer, generally the stores and manufacturers are ready to sell their older lawn mowers to make room for new mowers. The mowing season is slowing down, so they need to clear out their old stock before the year ends. As summer ends and fall comes, the growth of grass slows. So people do not need to mow their lawns oftenly. For this low demand of mowing, stores start offering discounts on lawn mowers to sell.

Great Discounts on Lawn Mower Parts

In August you can find lots of lawn mower parts on sale. Since it’s an off season, stores often reduce prices on important parts like spark plugs, tires, blades, air filters, baggers, engine parts (carburetor), belts, batteries, motor parts for electric mowers, steering wheels etc. So, it’s a great time to upgrade your mower while saving more.

Additionally, some brands release new mower models around this time with affordable prices. If you are not thinking of buying a new one, you can upgrade your mower with the new parts at a discounted price. So, upgrading now is a smart move because, this way your mower will be in good condition when you need it again.

What to Consider Before Upgrading the Lawn Mower?

When you are planning to upgrade your mower then consider these points.

    Yard size and Terrain

If you have a large or uneven yard, then go for a powerful mower like a riding mower or wheel drive mower.

    Avoid very Cheap Mowers

Something is on sale doesn’t mean it’s the right choice for your yard. So, go for that one which satisfies all your requirements and fits your yard.

    Research Before Buying

Do not convince yourself with the attractive promotions. Take time to research the models on sale. Look for reviews and compare features to ensure that you are getting a quality product, not just a cheap product.

    Check Warranty and Return Policies

First make sure the discounted products come with a good warranty and with a flexible return policy. So, if you do not get any warranty of return policy then do not buy these products

    Prioritize Essential Features

Choose a mower which satisfies your requirements means the features you need, even if it’s expensive, do not compromise with the features which are essential for you. It’s better to invest in something that will make mowing easier and more efficient rather than going for the cheapest option.

    Focus on durability

Sometimes, a lower price or discount price means higher maintenance, which may cost later. So, you should choose the models which are durable, easy to maintain.

  • Do Zero Turn Mowers Get Stuck Easily

Yes, zero turn mowers do get stuck easily. Unfortunately it is a common issue for many users. Normally zero turn mowers are designed to be highly maneuverable on flat, even surfaces, and open areas where they can easily cut the grass. But in different types of terrain they have faced some challenges.

    Reasons for getting stuck

    • Turf tires (Low Traction)
    • Sloppy And Steep Terrain
    • Wet Or Damp Grass

    Turf Tires (Low Traction)

Zero turn mowers are getting stuck due to their turf tires. These tires are specifically designed to be rolled on smooth grasses, which prevents damage to your lawn. These types of tires are good for keeping your lawn beautiful but when it comes to traction they are not so good. Turf tires do not give the same grip as other tires, which can be a problem on slope or steep areas and wet grass.

    Sloppy And Steep Terrain

If you have a sloppy area or you are mowing a steep area then your zero turn mower can face problems. The steeper the slope, the more grip is needed. As the angle of the slope increases, it becomes harder for a mower’s tires to hold onto the ground without sliding. So, zero turn mowers having strong grip tires are best for safety mowing.

    Wet Or Damp Grass

When the grass is wet or damp, whether from morning dew or after rain, these wet conditions add another layer of difficulty. In this wet condition the tires can slip more easily. This slipperiness increases the chances of the mower getting stuck. Even a small incline can be hard to move your mower when the ground is wet. The tires are getting stuck in between the grasses. If your tire happens to come off the rim, here’s a guide on how to fix your zero turn lawn mower tire if it comes off the rim.

How to manage your mower from getting stuck

It’s important to know the capabilities and limitations of your zero turn mower. If you regularly need to mow sloped or wet areas, consider investing in tires with better traction or looking for a mower designed for varied terrain.

Regular maintenance and checking the tire pressure can also help improve traction and reduce getting stuck.

    Key points:

Choose the Right Tires: Selecting tires with good traction ratings is important.

Understand Traction Ratings: Tires are rated from AA (highest) to C (lowest). Look for tires rated AA for the best performance.

High Traction for Wet Surfaces: High traction rating tires, perform better on wet surfaces, providing more grip.

Tackle Tough Terrain: Strong grip tires can manage the muddier or steeper lawns which can prevent being stuck.

Smooth Mowing Experience: Using tires with better grip can give a smooth ride experience and efficient performance.

    What Is Traction Rating

A traction rating measures how well a tire can grip the road, particularly in wet conditions. It’s graded from AA (highest) to C (lowest), with AA offering the best traction. This rating is important for safety, as it indicates a tire’s ability to prevent sliding or slipping while driving.

    Types Of Traction Rating

Traction ratings for tires include different types that help you understand how well a tire will perform under various conditions. Here are two important types of ratings:

    • Treadwear Rating: It refers to durability of the tire’s tread, which provides a number. From that number you can predict how long the tire’s tread will last under normal driving conditions. A higher number means the tire’s tread is more durable and will last longer.

This rating knowledge can help you to know the capacity of a tire, how many miles it can go before replacement.

    • Temperature Resistance Rating: This rating refers to the tire’s heat capacity. That means it measures how well a tire can handle the heat. When you are driving at high speeds, tires get very hot.

So, a tire with a high temperature resistance rating is better to handle this heat, which reduces the chances of tire problems like blowouts or the tread peeling off.

Now you know that zero turn mowers do get stuck easily. to know more in details, you can check our article comprehensive buyers guide for zero turn lawn mowers.

    Bottom line:

Zero turn mowers can easily get stuck on slopes or wet ground due to their turf tires. They are not designed for strong traction. Choose the tires with better grip which have strong traction ratings. Zero turn mowers having these tires can prevent being stuck in wet grass or slope areas.

    FAQS

Do other types of mowers get stuck more easily than zero turn mowers?

No, not exactly. The zero turn mowers can get stuck more easily in steep areas or wet grass  because they have turf tires which help in lawn protection than give traction.

FLOW Adds JohnDeere, Ace Hardware to Its Roster

It’s great news for the customers that FLOW adds JohnDeere. JohnDeere has joined the Freight Logistics Optimization Works (FLOW) program, which is run by the U.S. Department of Transportation. Which shows that big companies are now concerned more and more towards their customers’ benefits.

Also the Home Depot and True Value give importance to the customer’s benefit, that is how to reduce the delays and make it easier that where the cargo is.

“It’s not a project to tell you what’s already occurred, but it’s a project that tells you where the bottlenecks are going to occur,” Jennifer McNeill, SVP of supply chain operations at True Value, told Supply Chain Dive in a May interview.

The importance of these programs really felt during the pandemic when many shipping companies had delays due to crowded ports and not enough staff. The trouble came from not having enough information about where containers were and how much stuff was coming into the ports, which showed big problems in how supply chains were managed. So, to fix these issues White House started FLOW to help share information betterly.

John Deere Supplier Gates Corp Closing Plant in Newton, lowa

John Deere’s layoffs are affecting other companies too. A manufacturing company in Newton is closing. This shutdown is likely linked to JohnDeere, which has laid off thousands of workers in several states recently.

Frank Liebl, the Executive Director of Newton Economic Development Corporation, said the closure wasn’t a surprise since Gates Corporation, the company shutting down, has been a John Deere supplier since 2017.

According to lowa Workforce Development’s WARN Notification List, Gates has informed 41 of its Newton employees that they will be laid off.

“When things happen, when you are just your client, your customer stops ordering, you probably don’t have a choice,” Liebl said.

He said for those that are left jobless, the city will work hard to find them new positions.

“We’ll do what we can to assist those that are employed, and will reach out to us and try to work with them the best way we can,” Liebl said.

He said every business has its ups and downs, and while it’s hard to predict what’s next for John Deere, he believes better days are coming.

  • Your Mower Could Land You In Jail: Indiana’s Weird New Law

Your Mower Could Land You In Jail: Indiana’s Weird New Law

Everyone knows that lawnmowers can be loud. It’s understandable that lawn mowing is not exactly a simple and quiet task, while using a mower outside designated hours can lead to fines for homeowners. Noise regulations vary across Indiana, so it’s important to be aware of them when tending to your lawn.

Some people of Indiana cities, give priority to peace and quiet.  To keep their neighborhoods silent, local ordinances may limit the use of lawnmowers, leaf blowers, weed trimmers and garden tractors during certain hours. Each city sets its own rules, but the goal is the same: to protect the comfort and health of residents. Whether its late night festivities, untimely construction,or the hum of yard maintenance tools, it’s all about maintaining a peaceful environment.

Quiet hours typically run from 10pm to 7am on weekdays., and from 9pm to 8am on weekends. To keep the peace with your neighbors and stay on the right side of the law, it’s wise to avoid mowing during these times. Do not forget to double check your city’s specific noise rules too.

Raleigh Teens Take 50-Yard Lawn Mowing Challenge For Better Cause

Kids across the nation are spending part of their summer taking on the 50-yard lawn mowing challenge. This challenge invites kids aged 8 to 17 to mow the lawns of 50 people in their community who need help, including the elderly, disabled, single parents, veterans, or anyone else in need.

Rodney Smith Jr. of Raising Men and Women Lawn Care Service started the 50-Yard Challenge a few years ago as a passion project, and it has since grown into a nonprofit organization.

As they complete the challenge, participants earn different colored t-shirts for every ten lawns they mow. When they reach the goal of 50 lawns, they are rewarded with a new lawn mower, weed eater, and blower.

In Raleigh, two students from Heritage High School, 14-year-old Eddie Lassiter and 16-year-old Ericson Ramos, are stepping up to take on the challenge.

“We go out and cut grass for people that are disabled, elderly, first responders, or people that just can’t cut their grass by themselves because we want to help our community,” Lassiter explained.

“I’ve been helping people who need it the most,” Ramos said.

The teens helped Raleigh homeowner Stefan Williams by mowing his lawn. Stefan mentioned that the program is installing crucial life lessons in the youth.

“They’re learning what it is to get a job well done and putting your best foot forward and doing your best,” Williams said. “I think that’s important for a young man and with them being able to give to marginalized members of the community, that may have a tough time getting to the yards right now, that’s an extra incentive. This is an example of a couple of guys that are out there really getting it done.”
